Alexander Evgenievich Yakovlev Biography

Alexander Evgenievich Yakovlev (1887 - 1938) was a Russian painter who is known for his portraits and genre paintings. These works are typically based off scenes from his extensive travels, as Yakovlev spent much of life abroad and ended up resettling in Paris after a stint in East Asia. His most successful paintings stem from his participation in 'La Croisiere Noire," a motorized expedition across French territories in Sub-Saharan Africa; these works are ethnographic in nature and were quite popular in an age where Western artists were paying increased attention to African art.
