Foreword by Jamie Ritchie

T he Pristine Modern Cellar comes from an avid wine lover and his wife who both had an early understanding and appreciation for the greatest Burgundy Domaines, as well a curiosity of fine wines from all over the globe. Foremost, they are wine drinkers who have been buying and drinking a broad range of wines over the last two decades. His success as a businessman and investor enabled them to pursue their passion for wine, at a time when demand for these wines was less global. As a result, they were able to build up this substantial collection, while enjoying many great bottles.

He recollected how accessible it was to buy La Tache, so he would purchase case quantities and consume them with his family and friends - "The good old times!" he jokes with a cheerful grin. They enjoy the intricacies of fine Burgundy, which comprises 70% of this auction, and also the classic structure of the great Chateaux of Bordeaux. Like many, this husband and wife team have bought a little too much over these years for them to consume. So, they have decided to provide the opportunity for other wine lovers to enjoy some of the wines in their collection, though they retain plenty to drink.

They have been meticulous about taking care for their wines, which is illustrated by the fact that he came to visit our team, Kent Law, Jacky Chan and Alex Cubbage during our inspection and packing every day, to say goodbye to their long-treasured bottles. Kent also had great pleasure sharing bottles with him at dinner and listening to his stories of the great outdoors and being close to nature.

They acquired over 90% of the wines on release from official local distributors in the Southern Hemisphere, so the wines have exceptional provenance. All wines were then stored in excellent professional storage conditions. As highlighted above, several bottles were enjoyed during the packing process and the pristine condition of the wines confirms the exceptional provenance – all aged gracefully and are in optimum condition.
