Biography

Tessa Kansas currently serves as the Manager for the Fiduciary Client Group. In her role, she works in conjunction with the Head of Department, Client Strategy, Marketing and Events to manage strategic initiatives for the department. Tessa first joined Sotheby’s in 2017 in the Post Sale Services Department, later moving into the Impressionist & Modern Art Department in 2018. In this position Tessa supported Lucian Simmons, Vice Chairman and Worldwide Head of Restitution and assisted his work relating to the restitution of Nazi-looted art in Europe, including the successful sale of Egon Schiele's Dammernde Stadt (Die Kleine Stadt II) (City in Twilight (The Small City II)) sold in 2018. In 2020, Tessa transitioned into the American Art Department as the Associate Cataloguer, where she gained further experience working with experts in the field and managing consignments and valuations.

Tessa graduated from Hartwick College with a Bachelor’s in Art History and received a Master’s in Art Business from Sotheby's Institute of Art with a concentration in Art Law in 2016. Throughout her career at Sotheby’s, Tessa has been a trusted client contact and advocate for consignors and collectors.
