A specialist in European Painting and Swiss Art with 20 years of experience on the international art market, Stéphanie Schleining Deschanel is currently Head of the Swiss Art Department.
Since joining Sotheby’s in 2002, Stéphanie has played an important role in the recognition of Swiss Art both at the national and the international levels. Her contribution has been instrumental in the development of the market and the success of many Swiss Art auctions at Sotheby’s Zurich, including the sale in 2007 and 2017 of masterpieces by the Ecole de Savièse from prestigious Swiss and international collections, and the world record price for Félix Vallotton’s “Au marché” in December 2016.
Stéphanie works hand in hand with Sotheby’s senior management team in Switzerland and leads the Fine Arts Division in Geneva. She is responsible for key consignments for our flagship international sales in New York, London, Paris and Hong Kong and has developed long-standing relationships with important collectors, museums and institutions in Switzerland and abroad.
Having graduated from university with a degree in History of Art and French Literature, Stephanie completed post-graduate studies in Marketing and Communication. She regularly gives lectures and contributes scholarly papers on a wide range of subjects and since 2006 has been a Member of the Council of the Art Law Foundation from the Geneva University, whose mission is to promote and coordinate research on topical questions related to art law.
Before joining Sotheby’s, Stéphanie worked for a renowned contemporary art Gallery and an international auction house in Geneva.
