Biography

A specialist in Swiss Art, Stéphanie Schleining Deschanel was appointed Co-Director of the Swiss Art Department in 2012. Since joining Sotheby’s in 2002, she has played an important role in the recognition of the discipline both at the national and the international level. Her contribution has been instrumental in the development of the market in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and the success of many Swiss Art auctions at Sotheby’s Zurich. Among them was the sale in 2007 of a group of works by the celebrated Swiss painter Ernest Biéler from a prestigious private collection.

With over 15 years of experience on the art market, Ms Schleining Deschanel regularly advises collectors and is responsible for consignments and sales of 19th Century Paintings, Prints and Russian Paintings at Sotheby’s Geneva, thereby participating in the organisation of international sales in New York, London and Paris.

Having graduated from university with a degree in History of Art, Marketing and Communications, Ms Schleining Deschanel  regularly gives lectures on Swiss Art. She is also a Member of the Council of the Art Law Foundation from the Geneva University, whose mission is to promote and coordinate research on topical questions related to art law.

Before joining Sotheby’s, she worked for a renowned contemporary art gallery and an international auction house in Geneva.
