Biography

Stefano Moreni joined Sotheby’s in 1997 and was the Director of the Sotheby’s Contemporary art department in Milan for ten years. He has researched and written catalogs for a number of specialized sales such as The Stanley Seeger Collection of Italian Art and the first 20th Century Italian Art sale in London.

In 2011 he moved to Paris to take the head of the Contemporary art department and since his arrival the department has more tripled its turnover and been the market leader in its category for most of the five years, setting record for Soulages, Zao Wou Ki, Germaine Richier, Hans Hartung and Simon Hantai.

Prior to coming to Sotheby’s, Mr Moreni spent nine years as a curator of the Carlo Monzino collection, a prestigious private collection of Modern and Contemporary Art in Italy and Switzerland.

He graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Milan University with a specialization in Aesthetics and taught architecture and history at the Brera Academy.
