Biography

Nicholas Ricotta is an Assistant Vice President at Sotheby’s Financial Services, where he has spent the past four years structuring art-backed lending solutions for ultra-high-net-worth clients. In his role, he works at the intersection of finance and the global art market, supporting clients with bespoke financing strategies tailored to their unique set of needs and goals.

Prior to joining Sotheby’s Financial Services, Nicholas worked in commercial real estate banking at Wells Fargo, where he underwrote and managed loans across a range of property types, with a focus on hospitality projects.

At Sotheby’s Financial Services, Nicholas has been involved in a number of significant transactions, originating and structuring loans ranging from $10 million to over $100 million. Over the course of his tenure, he has contributed to more than $300 million in originations, working with some of the world’s most important and distinguished collections—spanning legacy collectors to a new generation of global entrepreneurs and technology leaders. His work supports both the firm’s auction and private sales businesses while also contributing to the growth of a substantial standalone lending portfolio, reflecting a disciplined approach to credit and a focus on long-term client relationships.

Nicholas brings a strong personal interest in contemporary art to his role, with a particular focus on the New York art scene. This informs his approach to client engagement and market perspective. He works closely and collaboratively with clients to develop bespoke liquidity solutions, balancing strategic objectives with thoughtful credit structuring. Through this approach, he has contributed to the growth of existing client relationships while fostering long-term partnerships grounded in expertise and discretion to understand clients’ evolving needs.

Nicholas is a graduate of Cornell University and is currently based in New York.
