Biography

Dr Natascha A. Domeisen is a specialist in Manuscripts and Rare Books, with particular expertise in medieval illuminated and illustrated manuscripts.

After her Dphil at Jesus College, Oxford, Natascha worked as cataloguer for Oriel College, Oxford, where she handled over 17’800 books and manuscripts, discovering rare and unrecognised bibliographic treasures, such as the personal copy of Captain Sir John Franklin’s ‘Narrative of a Journey to the Shores of the Polar Sea, in the Years 1819, 20, 21, and 22’, early editions of Isaac Newton’s works, and unknown first editions of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works. Following this engagement, Natascha worked for the international manuscript dealership Dr. Jörn Günther Rare Books in Basel, as a Manuscript Specialist, supporting institutional and private clients in curating, managing, and extending their collections. She has now joined the team at Sotheby’s as Associate Specialist in Illuminated Manuscripts. Natascha speaks German, Swiss German, English, and French.

Her latest and collaborative publication ‘Unprinted. Publishing beyond Print’ was published with Cambridge University Press spring 2025.

Natascha holds degrees form Heidelberg and Oxford University. Her Dphil in Modern Languages from Oxford University, was awarded for the doctoral thesis: ‘Heidin and Mörin– Materiality, Visuality, and Mediality of Courtly Texts in the late Middle Ages’. Her research was funded by the Leverhulme Trust as part of the Doctoral Research Centre ‘Beyond Print’. Using the collections of Margaret of Savoy (1420 - 1479) and Mechthild of the Palatinate (1419 -1482) as a starting point, her work studied the media and production history of courtly texts in times of print. She also holds an MSt in Medieval Studies from Oxford which was awarded with a distinction.
