Mark Buck joined Sotheby’s in 2005 and the 19th Century European art department in 2011. In his role as specialist he works closely with an international group of private clients, coordinating consignments and appraisals and advising on acquisitions and collection-building. He is responsible for sourcing and researching paintings for the sales of 19th Century European Art in New York, and continues to work with active buyers in Sotheby’s International salesrooms across a variety of departments.

During his time at Sotheby’s, Mark has played a critical role in the sale of works from important private collections including the Estate of Edward P. Evans, which featured a group of five paintings by Sir Alfred Munnings which sold for more than $2.6 Million, and the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Obed J. Wilson, highlighted by William Bouguereau’s The Cherry Branch, which sold for $1.5 million. From 2005 – 2011, Mark worked in Sotheby’s Toronto office as a Canadian art specialist and contributed to the consignments of the Estate of Michel Dunn, which totaled nearly $8 million, as well as property from the Collection of E.R. Hunter, and the Estate of W. Allan Manford. Mark was also instrumental in bringing Canadian Art to New York through the landmark S|2 exhibition, Canadian Abstraction, in February 2014.

Prior to joining Sotheby's, Mark worked at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
