Biography
Leigh Safar is a Senior Vice President, Senior Specialist, and Global Head of Important Collections in the Watches Department at Sotheby’s, working with vintage and modern watch collectors globally.
During her time at Sotheby’s, she has been based in both the New York and Los Angeles offices as a senior business getter. In 2020, Leigh worked out of the newly established Palm Beach gallery to grow the luxury presence and facilitate private sales. Mrs. Safar is currently based in Los Angeles and has helped expand Sotheby’s footprint on the West Coast. She has been instrumental in bringing a number of significant collections into the department globally. Most notably, she assisted in the consignment and sale of Tom Brady’s personal collection of watches and sports memorabilia, one of the department’s most high-profile publicly disclosed collections to come to market.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s in March 2018, Leigh worked as an Associate Specialist and Cataloguer at Phillips. Mrs. Safar’s last role at Phillips was acting as Head of Sale for WINNING ICONS: Legendary Watches of the 20th Century, featuring the record-breaking Rolex Daytona formerly owned by Paul Newman, which sold for $17.75 million.
Prior to joining Phillips, Leigh worked as a cataloguer in the Watches Department at Christie’s. Mrs. Safar attended George Washington University.
Leigh Safar has successfully completed the coursework and examination in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
