Biography

Julia Clarke joined Sotheby's in 1972, working first with 19th century objects of vertu in our Belgravia office.

Ms Clarke is a recognised authority on gold boxes, objects of vertu and enamels and has been involved in all the major European sales and valuations in this field, including the sales of the collections of Baron de Red and Baron Guy de Rothschild in Monaco (1975), Thurn und Taxis (1992/1993) and The Grand Ducal Collections of Baden (1995). She has been responsible for cataloguing and researching all the most significant snuff boxes sold by Sotheby's during the last 25 years, including such pieces as the Steinkabinettstabatier by Christian Gottlieb Stiehl of Dresden, circa 1775, which sold in Geneva in November 1997 for SFr.550,000.

Ms Clarke is a graduate of Oxford University.
