Biography

Irina Stepanova joined Sotheby’s in 2007 after a decade of experience working with notable Russian collectors as a consultant and curator of various exhibitions. She played a vital role in starting Sotheby’s Moscow office and arranging the first-ever travelling exhibition of Russian and international Contemporary Art.

She was instrumental in organising and promoting Sotheby’s legendary sale of The Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya Collection in 2007 and the sale of Kazimir Malevich’s Suprematist Composition in 2008 for $60 million—the record price for any work of Russian Art and for any work by Malevich. She has years of experience in the field of Russian art and the auction world.

Throughout her tenure at Sotheby’s, Ms Stepanova has fostered strong relationships with State Museums, Private Collections and Art Foundations in Russia and the CIS, and regularly lectures across Russia on the Global Art Market. She continues to play an important part in the development of Russian Art market and the promotion of international art in Russia.
