Since Heinrich Graf von Spreti joined Sotheby’s in 1978, he is internationally recognised as one of the foremost experts in the field of gold boxes and Fabergé, and played a leading role in Sotheby’s sales of Vertu.
He began his career in the Vertu department at Sotheby’s in London, becoming head of the department in 1984. Three years later, he was named Director, and then relocated to Munich to take charge of the new office that he lead until 2016. From 1996 until 1998 he was the Managing Director of Sotheby’s Germany. Heinrich von Spreti was crucial to the success of the historic Geneva sale of objects from the Princely Collection of Thurn and Taxis in November 1992, and he played a key role in the legendary Schloss sales, including The Princely Collection of The Thurn & Taxis in Regensburg in 1993, The Grand Ducal Collection of Baden-Baden in Baden-Baden in 1995, and the Hanover sale in 2005.
Heinrich von Spreti is President of Sotheby’s Germany, based in Munich, a position he has held since 1998.
