Gary Owen

  • Director | Head of Auction Sales, U.K.
London

Gary Owen joined Sotheby’s in January 2023 as Director, Head of UK Wine Sales. Having arrived from Berry Bros. & Rudd on St. James’s Street, he brought fifteen years of experience, eleven of those in their Private Client - Fine Wine division, specialising in their most important clients.

His start in the BB&R Fine Wine Dept. was to the opening of the grand 2010 Burgundy release yet the auspicious 2011 Bordeaux En Primeur. His wealth of knowledge is backed by his WSET Diploma and the many years of mentorship from working alongside some of the trade’s most highly respected Masters of Wine and influential characters.

It is this knowledge of the fine wine ecosystem which will be absolutely instrumental to bring the best collections to the market. His combination of experience, market insight and established network paired with his focused, detailed and nuanced approach to the complexities of the market.

Gary very much welcomes the opportunity to drive Sotheby’s wine business in the UK over the coming years. Not only is Sotheby’s such a historic address, but the potential given the position of the market, the ability of the Team here and the wonderful clients – it’s an unparalleled situation.

A strong disciple of ‘la Paulee’ lunch & dinner format, Gary loves nothing more than enjoying contrasting and complementary bottles around the dining table with clients & friends alike. Aside from the fine wine trade, the great loves of his life are his wife, energetic young children and fly fishing – you’ll often find him on Hampshire’s Rivers Itchen & Meon.
