Biography
Frances Asquith joined Sotheby's Russian department in 2007 in order to research the Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya Collection. She became Head of Russian Pictures in London in 2013 and Senior International Specialist in New York in 2015.
Frances has been involved in numerous record-breaking sales including the 2011 ‘white glove’ auction of the Alexander Benois collection and the sale of the two 1917 masterpieces, Family Portrait by Petr Konchalovsky and Man in a Bowler Hat by Robert Falk in 2013. More recently she worked on the 2014 landmark sale of avant-garde works led by Kazimir Malevich’s Head of a Peasant which achieved a total of £11.5m on a low estimate of £3.4m, and the 2015 sale of the Boris Bakhmeteff collection from the United States which established a new world record price of £3.8m for a work by Zinaida Serebriakova.
Frances studied Philosophy and Russian at St Edmund Hall, Oxford and speaks fluent Russian.
