Biography
Charlie Adamski Caulkins is Vice President, Head of Office, Dallas. She brings specialist acumen and over a decade of experience in the auction business to her role as Head of Office. She is responsible for Sotheby’s development of Texas strategy and coverage of the region.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s in May 2018, Charlie was the senior West Coast based specialist for the Post-War and Contemporary Art Department at Christie’s. Based out of San Francisco, Charlie not only worked with experienced collectors both buying and selling in the Post-War and Contemporary category globally, but also focused on educating new collectors and growing the West Coast market. Ms. Caulkins was responsible for creating and driving numerous initiatives, including the exciting Thiebaud from Thiebaud: Prints and Works on Paper from the Private Studio of Wayne Thiebaud auction held at Christie’s in fall 2017. Charlie also worked closely in partnership with her colleagues and the Estate of Ruth Asawa on two ground breaking private selling exhibitions Ruth: Asawa Objects and Apparition in 2013 and Ruth Asawa: Line by Line in 2015.
Prior to moving to San Francisco in 2011, Charlie was a member of the Post-War and Contemporary Art department in New York where she held various positions, starting as a cataloguer for the Post-War and Contemporary Day Sales and working her way up to mid-Season Sale Head.
Through her long history as a specialist and her work as a trusted advisor to seasoned collectors, she is well versed in appraisals for Insurance, Fair Market, Estate Tax and Financial Planning purposes.
Charlie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and German from Georgetown University, with a minor in Business. She is fluent in German. She lives in Dallas with her husband and son.
