What is “Sotheby’s Preferred”?
Sotheby’s Preferred is a carefully curated suite of bespoke services and benefits with insider access to sought-after events. From complimentary access to the greatest museums and art fairs to exclusive previews of blockbuster exhibitions, Sotheby's Preferred is your guide to extraordinary experiences around the world.
Why was I invited to join the programme?
Only Sotheby’s most valued clients are invited to the Preferred programme. If you would like to know more about why you were invited, please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have been sent a Sotheby’s Preferred card, what do I do with it?
Your SP card identifies you as a member of the Sotheby’s Preferred programme. In most cases, you do not need your physical card to redeem the benefits available to you, but you will need to present your card for:
- Complimentary access for yourself and up to 3 guests at our 150 + museum partners. (*Please notify us with three days advanced notice for admission to the Terra Cotta Museum)
- Complimentary catalogues or a copy of the latest Sotheby’s magazine from any of our worldwide catalogue desks.
- Complimentary dining at The Café, Sotheby’s London and Sotheby’s New York (terms and conditions apply).
- Preferred Members’ Room – members can present their Sotheby’s Preferred card at our pop up Members’ Rooms in London, Beijing or Hong Kong, open prior to selected evening sales.
I have lost my card, how can I get a replacement?
To order a new card, please click here to submit your name and contact details. The card can take up to four weeks to arrive, please let us know whether you will require a temporary card for use in the meantime.
My Sotheby’s Preferred card has not arrived, what should I do?
Please note that the card can take up to four weeks to arrive. If your card has not arrived after this point, please contact the Preferred team who will track your card for you.
Do I have to queue for exhibitions?
You do not have to queue—simply present your card at the Ticket Desk or Information Desk (depending on the museum) for immediate and complimentary entry. Can I take guests with me to exhibitions?
The Sotheby’s Preferred card allows the cardholder and up to three guests complimentary entry at all Preferred museums.
I went to a museum and they did not recognise my card, what shall I do?
Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. Due to high staff turnover at many of our museum partners, there are the rare occasions when a member of staff at museum is not familiar with the card. Please inform us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will contact the museum immediately to ensure this does not happen again.
How can I claim my gratis sale catalogues?
You are entitled to four gratis catalogue subscriptions per year. To request a new subscription or update existing subscriptions online, visit the ‘Subscriptions’ page or contact one of our Preferred Client Liaisons.
If you are visiting one of Sotheby’s global offices, simply present your Sotheby’s Preferred card at the catalogue desk to receive your gratis catalogue over the counter. You will be allowed to collect two catalogues at a time.
How do I subscribe to the Preferred monthly newsletter?

How can I request VIP passes to art fairs?
Every Preferred member is entitled to x1 double VIP pass to each of our partner fairs. All VIP passes are subject to availability and please note we are unable to secure a pass on your behalf if the request is made after the deadline listed in the brochure and on the website. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with the details of your request and someone from the Sotheby’s Preferred team will be in touch.
I am travelling and would like to organise a day sight-seeing, can you help?
Our Preferred Client Liaisons would be happy to put together a bespoke itinerary for your upcoming trip using our global network of art, cultural and luxury partners.
