Indian Miniatures from the Collection of Eva and Konrad Seitz 

One of only eight recorded instruments by Abu Bakr ibn Yusuf, this astrolabe mater and plates is a rare survival from the leading instrument maker of thirteenth century North Africa. It was published in 1844 as belonging to Dominique Jean, Baron Larrey (8 July 1766 – 25 July 1842), Napoleon Bonaparte’s chief surgeon of the Grande Armée.

The rich manuscript tradition is represented by a Hijazi leaf, a line from the ‘Baysunghur’ Qur’an and an exceptional Safavid Qur’an, offered alongside magnificent suzanis formerly in the Vok collection.
