Sotheby’s presents The Samurai: Japanese Arms and Armour. The sale takes place from 3–10 May, offering fine examples of helmets, armour and swords. Opening with an example of a momonari kabuto [peach-shaped helmet], the auction is succeeded by fine helmets, including a rare and important kabuto and a fine and rare kawari kabuto of zukin [cloth-cap] form. Armour from private collections include a collapsible armour, or tatami gusoku among others. Two Kamakura period blades from the Ichimonji schools are also featured in the sales, with further examples of nihonto from early to Heisei.
