Sotheby's presents the Sam and Lilette Szafran Collection, which pays tribute to the uncompromising artist that was Sam Szafran. This exceptional sale will present works by the artist himself, but also works with which he lived: modern and post-war works, some donated by his close friends such as Alberto Giacometti, Jean-Paul Riopelle and Isao Domoto, as well as works from Africa and Oceania and books. Most of the works in this collection are unpublished and some were kept by the artist for over sixty years. The works of Sam Szafran will trace the evolution of his work from his earliest paintings to his most recent ones, providing a comprehensive overview of the work of this fascinating artist.
