The name of this special Single-Owner sale, The Impeccable Burgundy Collection, very aptly reflects the nature of the collector behind it. Fastidious by nature, he ensures that what he buys has excellent provenance and is in perfect condition, with meticulous record keeping. He is a true wine lover and connoisseur, who appreciates the subtleties, nuances and intricacies of great Burgundy, from the very finest producers to those less well known. Generous with both his knowledge and the bottles in his cellar. One can immediately see his appreciation for the producers he enjoys, with the sale opening with wines from Rousseau, Dujac, Méo-Camuzet, Roumier, Leroy and, of course, DRC. When you come to the whites, Raveneau, Leflaive and Henri Boillot feature strongly. As for Champagne, there is considerable depth in Dom Pérignon, Krug, Salon, Cristal and Comtes de Champagne. Seeing this selection, it will come as no surprise that this is a small part of a much larger collection, that has been perfectly stored at Octavian in the UK, before being inspected by Alexandria Cubbage along with her UK colleagues, before being shipped to New York for sale.

The Impeccable Burgundy Collection

The sale opens with an astonishing assortment of Armand Rousseau, beginning with villages and moving quickly into notable 1er Crus: Lavaux and Clos St. Jacques. The Grands Crus follow, represented in 5 vineyard sites with towering verticals of both Clos de Bèze and Chambertin, appearing in 15 and 17 vintages, respectively.

Domaine Leroy is represented in four Premier Cru sites, spanning 3 villages and 3 Grand Cru vineyards: Clos de Vougeot, Romanée St. Vivant and Richebourg. Each lot appears in its original wooden case, with vintages 2009 and 2010 most prevalent.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti comprises 37 lots across 4 decades, 7 vineyard sites and bottle and magnum formats. The majority appears in original wooden cases, with monumental vintages 2005 and 2010 most heavily represented.

Broad offerings from Dujac and Méo-Camuzet round out the red Burgundy selection, punctuated by highlights from Liger-Belair, Cathiard, Mugnier and Vogüé.

White Burgundy is led by Chablis icons Raveneau and Dauvissat. What follows are some of the greatest names across Meursault, Chassagne and Puligny in the greatest vineyard sites. Montrachet is most heavily represented, appearing from eleven different Domaines.

A focused collection, it brings together some of the greatest names in Burgundy in an array of vintages. Opening with 58 consecutive lots from Armand Rousseau spanning the years 1995 – 2019, the sale then moves Dujac and Méo-Camuzet before giving way to Domaine Leroy and DRC. Roumier, Faiveley and Vogüé also feature prominently with highlights from Cathiard, Liger-Belair and Mugnier rounding out the red Burgundy selection. The latter part of the sale features white Burgundy from classic producers Domaine Leflaive, represented in each of its Grand Cru sites, Comtes Lafon, Ramonet and Raveneau. Later, broad offerings emerge from Marquis de Laguiche and Domaine Henri Boillot. The sale closes with an extensive Champagne selection featuring four decades of Krug, along with Dom Pérignon, Salon, Cristal and more.
