Description
the base with a six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle
Diameter 10¾ in., 27.3 cm
Brilliantly painted in varying swaths of vibrant cobalt, the present dish depicts a lovely rural riverscape scene. Characteristic of Kangxi porcelains, the figures are enveloped within the towering landscape, all painted in the 'Master of the Rocks'-style. Adeptly capturing a beautiful and tender moment of rural life, the painter shows a figure seated on the riverbank, under the constellations and a full moon, looking towards the flowing river before him and the lone fisherman on his raft. No other similarly decorated dish appears to be recorded.
