Description

NIKE, NIKE SPORTS SHOE, SIZE 25.5

Rubber, Leather, Cotton

1985

Offered in this lot is an exceptionally rare product from the lineage of Nike Air Jordan. At first glance, the pair appears reminiscent of the Air Jordan 1 Chicago, due to its construction and color blocking.

Yet, upon closer inspection, the intricate details unveil a distinctive narrative, suggesting the pair was created for the Korean market and possibly, that it was intended for children.

On the pair’s interior, Korean writing can be found beneath the "MADE IN KOREA" label on the tongue. Furthermore, the insoles bear a sticker proclaiming "BEST QUALITY IN KOREA, NIKE SPORTS SHOE, DESIGNED BY NIKE KOREA."

The interior coding on the collar designates the pair as size 25.5, further implying that it was tailored for a market employing this metric system for shoe measurement.

Accompanying this lot is a hangtag, although detached, which exhibits writing in Korean.

Additionally, in the book "Nike Chronicle Extra 1984-1986", a pair with a very strong resemblance to this lot is identified as "Air Jordan 1 High Sample Korean License."

In terms of the shoe itself, a noteworthy observation is the absence of Nike Air, a distinctive design element commonly associated with the "Sky Jordan" line—Nike's collection of children's Jordan shoes.

The pair also lacks any Air Jordan or Nike Air branding. The insole, tongue label and wings logo simply display the word "Nike." Which is likely due to the lack of 'Nike Air' in the shoe.

Adding to the nuance of this pair, the interior sticker on the insole classifies the pair as a size 6.5. According to the 1986 Nike Performance Catalog, Men's Air Jordans were released in sizes ranging from 6 to 14 and 15, while Sky Jordans were available in sizes 3.5 to 6.

Consequently, this particular pair falls within a size range typically produced for men but not for children. However, considering the aforementioned characteristics of the shoe, the details suggest it may have been designed with children in mind.

Additional differences include an alternative leather on the upper, as well as the Nike branding on the Wings logo, making this pair extremely sought after for collectors.
