A letter from Marcel Roethlisberger, dated 3 March 2013, draws comparisons between the present painting and the work of Goffredo Wals (1595–1638), who was likewise working in Rome around the same time as Bartholomeus Breenbergh (1598-1657) and Cornelis Poelenburgh (1594–1667).
