This hysterical comedy from 1967 was written and directed by Mel Brooks. The cast includes Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Dick Shawn and Kenneth Mars. The film is about a once successful theatre producer, Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) and Leopold 'Leo' Bloom (Gene Wilder), who is his accountant, and who convinces him to stage the worst musical, as a financial scam in order to hide a discrepancy in his accounts. They find a play - Springtime for Hitler: A Gay Romp with Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden - and feel sure that because of the subject matter, it will be a complete flop.
