This film was directed by George Stevens and stars Montgomery Cliff, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelly Winters. It is based on Theodore Dreiser's 1925 novel, An American Tragedy, and the 1926 play of the same name. The film tells the story of a working-class boy who gets a job working for his wealthy uncle. The young man gets entangled with two beautiful women, resulting in a tragic outcome. This film was a big success at the time of release, and won six Academy awards.
