Description

Comprising: a pocket watch, the round dial within a border of old cushion-shaped diamonds, the reverse applied with blue guilloché enamel, fitted case; and a pendant watch designed as a ladybird with red guilloché enamel wings, accented by rose diamonds and black enamel, the eyes collet-set with cabochon green tourmalines, the wings opening to reveal a round dial, the body opening to reveal a compartment containing a lock of hair.

Ferdinand I, Tsar of Bulgaria (1861-1948).

The enamel and diamond pocket watch belonged to Countess Antonia von Waldstein zu Wartenberg (1771–1854), the mother of Princess Antonia of Kohary (1797-1862). She bequeathed the watch to her eldest grandson's wife Princess Clémentine of Orléans (1817-1907). In turn Clémentine left the watch to her youngest son Ferdinand I, Tsar of Bulgaria (1861-1948).
