An Egyptian Bronze Figure of Ptah

25th/early 26th Dynasty, circa 750-600 B.C.


standing with his hands emerging from his cloak and holding the was-scepter and ankh, and wearing bracelets, broad beaded collar with tassel behind, wide ribbed beard, and close-fitting cap, his finely featured face with silver(?)-overlaid eyes, remains of inlay, likely black bronze, in the beard-straps and eyebrows.

Height 17.1 cm.

likely Nicolas Tano (1866-1924), Cairo
private collection, Chicago and New York, probably acquired in Egypt in the 1920s; thence by descent to the present owner

An old typed note attached to the underside of the base ends “N. Tano, Egypt, Cairo” (very probably the respected Cairo dealer Nicolas Tano, 1866-1924).
