8vo (10 x 7 in.; 257 x 172mm.). Half-title, folding map, 24 plates (one folding), in-text illustrations throughout; foxed, closed tears to folding plate and map. Original dark green cloth pictorially stamped in gilt, brown coated endpapers; some staining and minor rubbing.
First edition. The account of a military expedition to Yarkand and Kashgar under Sir Douglas Forsyth, part of the "Great Game".
