FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION, 4to (228 x 180mm.), engraved architectural title by J. Appier Hanzelet, 49 engraved illustrations showing maps, plans and views in the text, contemporary calf-backed boards, some browning and damp-staining, binding repaired
The first edition appeared in 1608, printed at Toul, but 1615 edition is the first with illustrations. These include maps and views in Dalmatia, the Ionian Islands and Southern Greece, the Aegean, Cyprus, and views in Palestine. Henri de Beaveau, diplomat and general, undertook his journey in 1604 from near Venice, de Beauvau being at that time in the service of de Salignac, French ambassador to the Porte. He had previously taken part in the Turkish-Hungarian campaign in the service of the Emperor Rudolph III.
