NIKE, NIKE SHIRT, SIZE L

2008

Ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Nike embarked on an ambitious project to design performance footwear across an unprecedented range of sports. Moving beyond its traditional focus on mainstream disciplines, the brand extended its innovation to events often overlooked by major athletic companies, producing specialized models for sailing, archery, equestrian, fencing, badminton, taekwondo, weightlifting, BMX, and running. With this initiative, Nike ensured that even the most niche Olympic athletes were equipped with purpose-built footwear for the Games.

Offered in this lot is a pair of Nike 6.0 Dunk Low Gyrizo samples, created in 2008 to celebrate BMX’s debut as an Olympic sport. Rumored to have been produced exclusively for Team USA riders in just 54 pairs, the Gyrizo—aptly named after the Greek word for “wheel”—embodied both performance and patriotism.

The silhouette incorporated technical modifications for BMX riding, including a stiffer sole with clip-in pedal capabilities and a forefoot strap for added stability. Dressed in a white leather upper with bold blue overlays, the design was finished with red laces and star detailing across the panels—an unmistakable nod to the American flag.

Accompanying this lot is a Nike Team USA BMX Olympic shirt, brand new with tags attached, in the same style worn in competition. Exceptionally rare, the Gyrizo was never released to the public, standing today as both an Olympic relic and a pinnacle of Nike’s experimental design ethos.
