Akira (1988)

This is an original Japanese theatrical premium poster produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha / the Akira Production Committee and merchandise maker Movic, with oversight from Kodansha, for the first Japanese release of Katsuhiro Otomo’s landmark feature film Akira. Issued around the July 1988 premiere, it was printed on distinctive coarse brown 'tea paper' and offered to cinema-goers as an exclusive admission bonus only at the film's premiere.

This is a very rare poster as it had a small print run as it was only offered at the film's premiere. 

This Japanese animated cyberpunk film was directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, and written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto, based on Otomo's 1982 manga of the same name. The film is set in a dystopian 2019. After the destruction of Tokyo in 1988, Neo-Tokyo is established as a futuristic metropolis. The city is cursed by corruption, anti-government protests and terrorism. A military complex is threatened by a psychic psychopath, who acquired amazing telekinetic powers after a motorbike accident, and which he uses for malicious purposes. His powers are the same as Akira, the instrument that originally destroyed Tokyo. Will history repeat itself once again?
