Eight Gem Set, Enamel and Diamond Charms

Cartier

卡地亞 | 寶石、琺瑯 配 鑽石 小吊墜八件

Comprising of eight charms depicting Disney characters: three Mickeys set with oval and cabochon sapphires, cabochon emeralds and rubies, decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds and enamel; with similarly-set two Plutos; a mickey and a Minnie on a swing; and a Goofy; mounted in 18 karat yellow gold, all signed Cartier and Walt Disney Productions, Goofy and Plutos numbered, case stamped Cartier.

In 1937, to celebrate Disney’s first ever full-length film, Cartier created the limited-edition gold and enamel charm bracelet for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This fun and innovative bracelet was worn by Lillian Disney, the wife of Walt Disney, at the premier of the film and has since inspired collectors of Disney jewelry. The collaboration between Disney and Cartier allowed for Disney and his production company to build and work in a better studio. Later, in 1940, Cartier similarly created a charm bracelet celebrating the second feature film of Walt Disney Productions, Pinocchio. Both editions of Disney-Cartier charm bracelets have reached incredible heights in recent auctions. These charms represent the historical and aesthetic significance of the mid-20th century, reminiscent of childhood wonder and fantasy.

Often when the topic of Disney is brought up, the image that comes to mind would be of Mickey Mouse, the quintessential Disney character. Like the charms that celebrate the first and second films produced by Disney, Cartier also produced a series of charms with classical anthropomorphic characters that are associated with Disney, such as Minnie and Mickey Mouse. These unique and collectible set of 8 charms (which include Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Goofy) are icons of the early 20th century that represent Walt Disney’s wish to inspire and entertain people around the world.
