Taisho period, dated Taisho hachinen juichigatsu kichijutsu, Omi no kuni Inoue Shiro ke judai no tame (an auspicious day in November 1919, for the successive generations of the Inoue Shiro family from Omi Province)
Sugata [configuration]: slender shinogi zukuri, iori-mune, tori-zori, ko-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: masame-hada
Hamon [tempering pattern]: nioi-based narrow suguha hamon
Boshi [tip]: small rounded maru-boshi with short turnback
Nakago [tang]: ubu, ha-agari kurijiri, kesho yasurime file markings, single meukugi-ana
Habaki [collar]: silver and copper-gilt, double clad
In shirasaya plain wood scabbard]
Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 70.8 cm., 27⅞ in.
Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: 1.8 cm., ¾ in.
Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 2.7 cm., 1 in.
Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token, no. 1008850 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword], dated Heisei 30 (2018).
The sayagaki inscription by Tanobe Michihiro has been translated as:
Gassan Sadakatsu, a resident of Osaka
This blade bears a nine-character signature plus cursive monogram, is dated with the 8th year of Taisho (1919), and is inscribed with the supplement that it was made for the successive generations of the family of Inoue Shiro from Omi Province. Sadakatsu was the son of the first generation Sadakazu. This is a masterwork with a slender shape and a ko-kissaki that displays a fine masame-hada and that is hardened in a calm hoso-suguha.
Blade length: 70.8 cm.
Attested by Tanzan in January of the Year of the Boar of this era (2019) and kao [cursive monogram]
Osaka-ju Gassan Sadakatsu
Kuji-mei to kao narabi ni Taisho hachinen-ki oyobi Goshu Inoue Shiro ke judai no tame seisaku seshi mune soe-mei kore ari. Doko Shodai Sadakazu no ko nari. Hosomi, ko-kissaki no keijo o tei-shi komaka na masamegitae ni onken naru hoso-suguha o yakimōshi-sōrō kahin nari.
