The inscription on the seal face from a poem by Tang literati Han Yu, capturing a poignant historical moment of the late Tang dynasty. Following the demise of Emperor Dezong (742–805), his frail successor Shunzong (761-806), with speech difficulties, took the throne. Concurrently, tensions brewed between two high-ranking officials, Wang Shuwen and Wei Zhiyi. Through his poem, Han Yu articulated his concerns, voicing a hope for court unity in those uncertain times.
