Vintage NASA “Red Number” chromogenic color photograph, 10 by 8 inches, “A Kodak Paper” watermark, press captions printed in purple to verso. NASA image ID “NASA AS-15-86-11601” (but actually 11601: the number has been corrected, recto and verso, in red pen) printed in upper left margin in red; minor toning, two small pieces of tape to margins along with two instances of adhesive residue.


The present image captures Lunar Module Pilot Jim Irwin working at the Lunar Roving Vehicle during the first Apollo 15 lunar surface EVA. LM Falcon is on the left, with the undeployed Laser Ranging Retro Reflector (LR-3) atop the LM's modular equipment stowage assembly (MESA). The Hadley Delta and the Apennine Front are in are visible in the background, and St. George crater is in the distance behind Irwin's head.
