Description

modelled by Peter Reinecke, standing, a jug held to his lips, holding a hat in his left hand, wearing a yellow jacket and green-lined purple cloak, the base applied with flowers and leaves, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear of base, impressed 95;

together with a German Porcelain Figure of a Cook of 'Cris de Paris' Series Type, Circa 1780, probably Meissen (Marcolini), modelled standing before a brick stove, his hand raised to his lips, on a scroll-moulded base heightened in ochre, indistinct crossed swords and star mark in underglaze-blue to rear of base. 2 pieces.

The ‘Nachtschwärmer’ in good condition, with a minor chip and some paint loss at the hat; the Cook in fairly good condition, the attribute in his left hand chipped off and lacking and tiny chip to lower corner of his apron.


Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
