Lot Details
Description
Freddie Mercury's black leather jacket by Diana Moseley, with black vinyl stage trousers, circa 1985
A military-style cropped jacket of black leather, the open front decorated with tabs fixed with white metal studs, six on the right side, two on the left and three on the collar, an articulated metal panel attached to the left side, each panel stamped ‘Super Lamex / France’, with exaggerated capped sleeves, lined with two tone dark red and black satin, unlabelled; with a pair of black vinyl jean-style trousers labelled inside ‘TESON’ with ‘HIS 30” and ‘HERS 12’ sizes
(qty 2)
This jacket is an exact replica of the white one made by Diana Moseley for the ‘I Was Born To Love You’ video, 1985 (see lot 228) for which Freddie had requested a ‘warrior’ look. The articulated metal panel is made from the same material used on butcher’s aprons, the closest material she could find to resemble armour without the weight. According to Diana, Freddie loved the white jacket so much that he asked her to make him a black leather version for off-stage wear.
The pair of black vinyl trousers included in this lot are very similar to those worn on stage by Freddie and along with the red vinyl trousers (see Lots 207 and 212) were Freddie’s preferred stage wear around this time.
