Freddie wore this or an an identical boilersuit to record ‘Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy’ for the U.K. chart show Top Of The Pops on 14 June 1977. There are also photographs of Freddie on stage wearing an identical suit at the Frankfurt Festhalle, 14 May, 1977 with the belt tied at the waist. This ensemble was worn during the Day At The Races tour of 1976, publicity photographs for which were reproduced on the Masterworks Collector’s Edition CD for the album. This scarf also appears in numerous photographs from this time, indicating that it was a favourite accessory worn with various outfits.
The Adidas three-stripe sneakers in this lot are similar to those Freddie’s seen wearing on stage in the Princes of the Universe video, 1986.
A boiler suit identical to the blue one included in this lot can be seen in a photograph by Peter Hince depicting Freddie with Mary Austin a garden party at the Ede Au Lac Hotel, Montreux, during the recording of the Jazz album, July, 1978 (Queen: The Ultimate Illustrated History Of The Crown Kings Of Rock, Voyageur Press, 2009, p.119).
