A Roman Marble or Indurated Limestone Appliqué Bust of Zeus-Serapis
circa 2nd Century A.D.
possibly an attachment from a vessel, based on a monumental cult statue by Bryaxis, with thick beard of twisted curls and long wavy hair with locks falling down over the forehead, the polos on the crown of the head missing.
Height 7.4 cm.
Jan Mitchell (1913-2009), New York, probably acquired in the 1960s or earlier
by descent to the present owner
