Pair of English Enamel Tall Candlesticks

Circa 1770


Baluster form, domed bases transfer-printed and overpainted with vignettes of figures in landscapes including a Fishing Party and a Hunter with his Dog after The Ladies Amusement, the shoulders with bouquets, all within gilt scrollwork borders on white ground, detachable nozzles.

The hunter and his dog and the fishing party appear in reverse on plate 32 of The Ladies Amusement, or Whole Art of Japanning Made Easy, published by Robert Sayer, 1762 edition and facsimile edition, 1959.
