Description
Vega Sicilia 'Unico' 1998
Ribera del Duero, DO
Good levels, excellent appearance; Bons niveaux, excellente apparence
92% Tinto Fino, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Nose of heather and tar. Great richness and immediacy. In 2013, a really tarry nose. Still adolescent on the palate, at the start of its life, with the impact and attack of youth. My guess is that this will need decades to smooth out - it is bursting at the seams with personality and flavour. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

Starting with Roumier and finishing with Vega Sicilia, travelling through the brilliant vineyards of Europe, this private collection with a specific interest in Burgundy, was amassed over 6 decades by a passionate collector with an enormous appreciation of the world’s very best wines far ahead of its time in its discerning taste. There is a distinct focus on the 1980’s with a plethora of Burgundy with a wonderful array of illustrious Domaine from Georges Roumier, Georges Mugneret, Michel Niellon, Comtes Lafon, Hubert de Montille and rarely seen – but a kept secret – Michel Gaunoux. The vast majority of these brilliant wines were purchased directly decades ago at the properties and were safely stored in an immaculate, air-conditioned cellar
