Sotheby’s Wine is delighted to present: Finest and Rarest Wines | The Astonishing Cellar of Doctor S, Part II

This is the hotly anticipated, concluding part of this astonishing collection, curated with single-minded purpose and passion over more than 40 years. Acquired from well-regarded UK wine merchants, it has remained undisturbed since original purchase. The late Doctor spent countless hours on the telephone, building an extensive network of contacts in the UK Wine Trade. All original invoices, initial offers, newsletters and related documentation have been kept on file, ensuring that the questions of provenance and authenticity are beyond reproach.

The sale opens with a swathe of Armand Rousseau and Georges Roumier, which is followed, in alphabetical order by grower, by the likes of Marquis d'Angerville, Ghislaine Barthod, Jean Grivot, Anne Gros, Henri and Georges Jayer and Emmanuel Rouget. White Burgundy is represented by Chablis from Dauvissat in profusion and choice gems from Lafon and Leflaive. Underpinning all this are treasures from the Rhône, Bordeaux and Champagne, including a plethora of Krug and Pol Roger. Fans of benchmark German wines will not be disappointed as we include selections from Dr Loosen, Fritz Haag, Von Schubert, and J.J. Prum.

The majority of this collection has benefitted from high-quality professional storage at London City Bond, providing continuity and reassurance, before removal, for this sale to Octavian. The last 60 or so lots, now stored in our Greenford warehouse, were removed from the Doctor's own cellars, naturally cool and damp, and located under an imposing traditional English country house. The condition and the colour of the wine is remarkable.

In either case, the quality of the storage is evidenced by the generally excellent levels in these mature bottles.

Finest and Rarest Wines | The Astonishing Cellar of Doctor S, Part II will open for online bidding on 13 November at 10:00 AM GMT, culminating in an online-only auction on 27 November at 10:00 AM GMT.
