Photographer and mixed-media artist Vik Muniz is best known for repurposing everyday materials in order to create heavily intricate recreations of canonical works of art. Muniz employs a plethora of medium, ranging from trash to peanut butter and jelly, to create his compositions. Haystack #5, After Monet takes as inspiration Monet’s iconic series of haystacks, in which Monet studied the effects of light upon these mounds at various times of day and year. Here, Muniz used squares from a color chart to reconstruct the original composition. Vik Muniz’s works are in the collections of Tate, London and Museum of Modern Art, New York.
