the 11 inch dial signed ThoS Smith London, mask and scroll spandrels, altered centre with scroll engraving and subsidiary seconds dial, the associated 19th-century three train movement quarter chiming on a nest of eight bells and striking on a further bell, the case with caddy cresting and later gilt ball finials above a frieze fret and gilt-capped hood pilasters, rectangular trunk door with glazed lenticle, the plinth with moulded base, decorated throughout with bird and flower marquetry; the inside case door with manuscript label Thoroughly repaired and cleaned by H. Angermann June 3, 1916. should be oiled in 3 yrs and a fragmentary manuscript label The chime on...is the Whittington...on the 4 bells is the Westminster; crest and marquetry decoration possibly later
