Christie's New York, 13-14 October 2016, lot 99.
The distinctive brass gadrooned moulding of the upper edge and the ribbon-tied moulding along the bottom edge are identical to those of a commode attributed to Ince & Mayhew probably made for Archibald Douglas, later 1st Baron Douglas at 104 Pall Mall, London in c.1773 and now in the Lady Lever Art Gallery (Lucy Wood, Catalogue of Commodes, London 1994, p. 195, no. 22), and the reeded tapering square feet and panelled doors flanking a central arrangement of drawers are similar to those on a secretaire commode supplied by the cabinetmakers to Lord Grafton in c.1778 (Hugh Roberts and Charles Cator, Industry and Ingenuity. The Partnership of William Ince and John Mayhew, London 2022, p.323 fig. 204).
