This attractive model is after a set of 18th century armchairs, of which a pair was in the collection of Percival D. Griffiths and subsequently those of Geoffrey Blackwell and Colonial Williamsburg, later sold Sotheby's New York, 24 October 1992, lot 321 (Christian Jussel, English Furniture 1680-1760. The Percival D. Griffiths Collection, New Haven and London 2023, Vol. I, no. F88 p.115). A single chair from this set was in the collection of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr, sold Parke-Bernet Galleries New York, 29 April 1960, lot 122, and most recently Sotheby's New York, 24 October 2019, lot 569.
