8vo (211 x 146 mm). Some dampstaining in upper right corner of first few leaves. Publisher's original buckram, spine lettered in black over red, facsimile signature on upper cover; light rubbing to spine, endpapers browned. Original dust-jacket, some wear at edges and corners, author photo on lower cover rubbed, tape repair to verso of spine ends. Red morocco clamshell case, spine gilt-lettered, Ira Lipman supralibros on upper cover.
"The very rude author." First edition, signed by Hemingway on the front free endpaper. Above Hemingway's signature, the previous owner has affixed a small strip of paper, with a typed inscription: "Signed by the very rude Author Ernest Hemingway at Summer Cove Meeting Place 1940."
