Commentary from 2002 catalogue:
I have created a mezuzah which represents the prayer it is built to contain. According to Jewish spiritual teaching, the essence of God resides behind a veil. The closed doors represent the manifestations of God in the physical realm. Only upon close investigation can one gaze upon what lies inside. When the doors open, the veil between physicality and holiness no longer exists.
