A musical quotation from Weill’s most famous collaboration with Bertholt Brecht, Die Dreigroschenoper (The Threepenny Opera), composed in Berlin in 1928. It is the composer’s most enduring work. Weill left Europe in the 1930s and settled in America, where he became a composer on Broadway. He died in New York at the age of fifty in 1950.
