Japan, Edo period, 17th-18th century


each of baluster supported on a protruding footrim and rising to an octagonal neck, decorated around the sides with large hoho birds, chrysanthemum and peony, one vase with composite flower panels around the shoulder, the other with shaped lappets of tigers and dragons, the associated covers similarly decorated and surmounted by a large bud knob
